The course is centred on practical training for engineering, technical and business professionals. It aims to make better communicators, both verbally and in written communication in the work place, focusing on business correspondence and technical reports. Practical exercises enhance the learning.

Writing Skills

*   Basic, good writing skills:

     sentencing - paragraphs - punctuation - spelling - tenses -

      abbreviations

*   Planning your writing:   tools and methods

*   Structure of a report or email:

     Introduction - body - conclusion

*   Mistakes to avoid

*   Formal and informal emails - first contact emails - request emails

     Writing tips and terms of address

*   Argument-led writing:

     Setting out to persuade

*   Describing tables and graphs:

     Strategies for writing summaries

*   Guidelines for writing technical reports:

     The standard model - sections in a report

     Overview and examples of different types of reports

*   Editing draft work - is it grammatically correct? Appropriate?

*   Presenting Business Reports:

     Format - writing - power point slides - effective presentation
